People say, "First time is always
difficult but very important". I assume this
is well applied to my first writing contributed
to my first-ever column.
I have no idea what to talk about, which won't bore readers!!!
Talking about field journalism will be over my ability and definitely super-experienced journos have already done what I'm doing now ages ago.
Pointless to say!!!
Talking about sex and relationship is impossible
since I'm not "s-expert" like Carrie Bradshaw
from Sex And the City.
The only possible thought coming across my mind
is "side experience of the coverage", which
is something very personal and individual.
My remembrance of the first assignment (with
Fuji TV) in Kuwait is so vivid _ "The Land
of Nice Cars; Bearded Men, No-no Alcohol, Shopping
Malls and Starbucks".
Oil money with small number of population makes things so much different.
Kuwaitis are driving nice, very nice and super nice cars. Roads and streets
there are transformed into catwalks. Everybody tend to take their latest
luxurious models for a ride; just for a little enjoyment.
When I drove rented GMC truck cruising around
(of course, after finished working), the easiest
way to differentiate men and women through tinted
car glass windows was "Beard". Arab culture
in my brain is beard culture. Beard is a sign
of macho good-looking thing, which I do agree
only for some. Those bearded muscled men, sometimes,
they walk hand in hand _strange is what I can
think of. Since alcohol is illegal, those bearded
ones have to find some substitutes.
Coffee in shopping malls is prior as things come as a package. Shopping
malls mean girls and hi-class coffee means Starbucks. Most of Starbucks
there are attached to big shopping malls, which is a
chic-pick-up place. Girls love shopping and bearded men love coffee. And
accidentally three completely different things are matching perfectly and
beautifully.
I did enjoy myself going to shopping malls. Investing 4 bucks for Starbucks_grande latte, I sat for hours observing the world around me. The bearded men must be thinking the same. Allah Akbar.
